Birth Center and Babies First Program
A Family-Centered Approach
The Birth Center and Babies First Program services at St. John’s Regional Medical Center and St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital are among the best in Ventura County.
St. John’s was the first hospital to fully implement a family-centered program where families are encouraged to be involved as much as they would like in the birth process. Another special component at St. John’s is the couplet care concept, in which the baby stays in the room with the mother during their entire stay. This experience allows moms and their newborns to create a special bond in those important first days together.
In addition, more than 90% of the staff of nurses and nurses aides have had lactation education and support training. An independent lactation consultant is available to talk to new mothers about breastfeeding and other options.
